NATURE CLUB ACTIVITIES 2019-20
Nature Club of Assumption college Autonomous was set up to create among the students the awareness about the importance of protecting our nature and environment..Ms.Smitha Mathews (Zoology) and Ms. Gloria Winnie maria (Botany) were the teacher in charge of Nature club during the academic year 2019-2020.Following members were elected as office bearers:-

Members of nature club carried out sanitary analysis of drinking water quality of flood affected area of Kuttand. They were also carried out the same analysis for those who approach us and routinely check the quality of all water supply of our college.
Expobotanica 2k19 :Dept. of Botany in association with nature club organized an exhibition of medicinal plants, Expobotanica 2k19 on 4th September 2019.
Workshop on Mushroom cultivation: A workshop on Cultivation of Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus florida) by Ms. Gloria Maria Winnie was conducted on 16th December 2019. A sale of mushroom spawn was also done.
Maintenance of vegetable garden
Demonstration class on production of ecofriendly items from waste products: On 19/12/2019 a demonstration class on production of eco-friendly items from waste materials was conducted. Ms. Feba Babu and Ms. Jayalakshmi P. B of IIIrd B.Sc Botany led the session for members of nature club.
Cultivation, maintenance and distribution of Probiotic yoghurt cultures were also carried out by members of the Nature Club.
Various competitions like Best out of waste, Nature Quiz and Pencil drawing were conducted from 14/01/2020 to 16/01/2020.Following are the list of prize winners in each category.

NATURE CLUB ACTIVITIES 2018-19
Activities of Nature club for 2018-19 started with planting of 3 trees in the college campus on world environmental day (05/06/2018).Members of nature club collected plastic cover and reuse it for the cultivation seeds of vegetables. Saplings thus produced were used for organic farming in vegetable garden. Members of the nature club also collected tulsi flower and nut meg and used them for production of wine. They also prepared grape wine.
On 18/09/2018 there was a live demonstration class on ‘’Kitchen waste management though Effective Microorganism (EM) Technology’’ by Ms.Smitha Mathews (Co-ordinator,Nature club) at Powethil hall. 50 number students participated and get benefitted. The same technology is now used for treating our noon meal waste and the treated waste is used as manure for vegetable garden.
Members of nature club carried out sanitary analysis of drinking water quality of flood affected area of Kuttand and 20 was found to be non potable. They were also carried out the same analysis for those who approaches us and routinely check the quality of all water supply of our college.
There was also another talk on the topic ‘’Significance of Probiotic for healthy life” by Ms.Smitha Mathews (Co-ordinator, Nature club) and Ms.Laya Mariya Joseph (II nd year Microbiology student) at Powethil hall on 08/10/18.Sale of Probiotic Yoghurt and Probiotic Palappam culture were also done during the same time. 52 number students participated and get benefitted.

A talk on ‘Solid waste management using Effective microorganisms Technology( EM Technology)’ was given to Nature club members by Kum.AksaBaby of III DC Microbioand emonstratenprocessing of kitchen waste .
Various competitions were also conducted for the members.Nature Quiz,Painting and essay competitions were conducted on the Second week of January 2018.Following are the winners of various competitions.

Ms. Smitha Mathews and Ms. Rincymol Varghese of Zoology Department were the teachers in Charge of the Nature Club during this academic year.
Activities of the Nature club was initiated by Environmental Day Celebration in association with Zoology Department. Ms. Gowrilekshmi R delivered a talk on ‘Solid waste management using Effective microorganisms Technology( EM Technology)’ and also demonstrated how kitchen waste and sewage can be processed and used as fertilizers. Using this technology members of Nature club collected, processed their noon meal waste and used for organic farming . During this academic year members of the Nature Club actively participated in Organic farming practices inside the campus. Our Principal Rev. Dr. Sr. Amala S.H inaugurated Organic farming and delivered a talk on the importance of Organic farming. We cultivated amaranth, Ladies finger, Ash gourd, Beans, tomato etc.
Various competitions were also conducted for the members. Nature Quiz, Poster designing and essay competitions were conducted on the first week of February. Following are the winners of various competitions.
